These Are A Few of My Favorite Things in 2015

#AMonthofFaves Good Times Reading Running

Favorite Things

Does the title of this post make you want to sing songs from The Sound of Music? When I was just a wee five-year-old, I was cast as Gretl von Trapp in the local high school production; I’ll never forget that experience! I digress…today’s topic for #AMonthofFaves is just that – These Are A Few of My Favorite Things in 2015; join hosts GirlxoxoTraveling with T and Estella’s Revenge in looking back at the year that was – sharing our favorite experiences.

Eat – I made this Bacon and Egg Cupcakes recipe more than any other in 2015; I love having an easy breakfast ready to take with me so that I don’t have to worry about it as I’m rushing out the door. I received a copy of I Quit Sugar by Sarah Wilson for review and I’m so happy that I found this one!

Drink – For hydration (and rehydration) purposes, Nuun is what I’ve been drinking this year. 2015 has been my first year as a Nuunbassador and Watermelon is definitely my favorite flavor (and now it’s available year-round!). Now that cooler weather has arrived, I’m also back into drinking a cup of hot tea after dinner; luckily, the holiday flavors from The Republic of Tea are now available and Peppermint Bark is my favorite!

Wear – I spend most of my time in running clothes & shoes and, when I have to, I put on work-appropriate attire. I have made two fun shoe discoveries this year: the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 17s, which are like running on clouds, and the Clarks Rosepoint Bud Booties, which are not only work-appropriate but also very comfortable.

Smell – Aromatique is an Arkansas-based company that pioneered the decorative home fragrance movement in 1982; since then, amidst the competition, they have continued to thrive and provide charitable gifts to local organizations. One of their seasonal fragrances, The Smell of Christmas, has long been a favorite of mine and I’m happy to know that it is still around and available now!

See – I love seeing movies and some of my favorites this year have been McFarland, USA, Southpaw and The Martian; however, I’ve yet to see some movies that I’m really excited about like Bridge of Spies, Everest, Sisters (Fey and Poehler back together?!!), Concussion (you can read my thoughts on the book here) and Creed

my favorite things

Most Used Gift Received – My Oiselle Moto Lesley Tights, hands down; Jonathan gave them to me last Christmas and they were used all winter and will be used again this year. They are comfortable, warm and I don’t even notice them while running; highly recommend.

Outdoor activity – While I would normally say running (and this is still running-related!), I had the most fun this year participating in a triathlon relay with two other gals while also cheering them on (and two of our spouses!) throughout the event; triathlons are really fun because there’s just so much action and so many opportunities to see the participants as they come in from one event and transition to the next.

Toad Suck

Place visited – Hot Springs, Arkansas, for a lakeside vacation this summer. We always have a great time in Hot Springs; there are plenty of outdoor activities to take advantage of, events and sights to take in and great food.

Most squee worthy moment of the year – Meeting my friend Cecilia (in real life) for the first time! Cecilia blogs over at MommiesRun (and she’s hilarious), so you should check her out; I’ll get to hang out with her again this weekend, and I can’t wait!

Biggest change – We moved into a new old house! New to us, but it’s an old home; it has lots of character and charm (and some dead trees and leaky spots, but that’s a whole other discussion) and we love it. Moving into a new place is always a big change, but we’ve really enjoyed it and are looking forward to many more years here.

A New Home

Tell me some of your favorite things from this year!

  • I would also say that moving into a new home was one of my favorite parts of this year! It was a huge transition but definitely a positive one overall. It can take so long to get settled but now that we have been here a while it was all worth it. Great list! I need to check out those Oiselle tights- I definitely need a good pair for this winter!

    • Lisa, moving is so crazy, right?!! I’m just glad it’s over – ha! I’m with you, though – now that we’ve gotten settled and things are going well, I’m so glad that we did it. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you’re having a great day!

  • So much greatness in one post! I love looking back on the year and reliving all the great moments. I have to agree with a lot of your choices here and will have to check out mommies run blog!
Thanks again for turning me onto “Concussion.” Listening to it now and it’s getting GOOD!

    • Oooh, I bet the audiobook version isreally good, Allie! I’m so glad to hear that you are enjoying it; can’t wait to discuss!! Thanks so much for stopping by; hope you’re having a great day!

  • And…I may have to try out a pair of those tights! Since my experience with Oiselle and their racerbacks has been amazing!! And – I just listened to Bill Simmons interview Michael B. Jordan about Creed on his podcast…and, since he also starred in Friday Night Lights, I’ll probably have to see that movie. Since I have to watch everything with an ex-FNL actor in it 🙂

    • THAT’S what he was in?!! I knew I’d seen him in something really popular; thank you for solving the mystery – ha! I like him; I’m curious to see if it’ll be good, or cheesy. The trailer is appealing, so I’m sure I’ll watch it, at some point. Thanks so much, Sarah!

  • Those bacon and egg cupcakes look amazing. I must try them. I love anything with bacon. I also love Republic of Tea – must try the Peppermint one. Sounds perfect for this time of the year! I hope you enjoy the holidays in your new home. 🙂

    • Christina, Republic of Tea carries all of the Downton Abbey teas – eeeeek! They have some special holiday sets that are really cute, too. Thanks so much for stopping by; hope you’re having a great day!

  • Creed has gotten such good reviews, Im a little surprised!

    • Right?!! I am, too! I guess I’ll have to watch it just to find out – ha! I think that’s what they want us to do… 😉 Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  • I saw a bunch of movies this year, too. I loved McFarland USA and Southpaw, as well. Definitely see Bridge of Spies. It’s excellent!

    • Oh, great, Megan! Thanks so much for the recommendation! I’m excited to see it; I love that type of movie. Thank you for stopping by; hope you’re having a great day!

  • I love peppermint tea, especially in the winter. Have been drinking Celestial Seasonings, but will try Republic of Tea next time!

    • Oooh, Celestial Seasonings is good, too, JoAnn; we’ve been drinking some of their Cinnamon Apple Spice tea, too, and it is so delicious! Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  • Congrats on your new home! I’m been eating and drinking peppermint everything lately. That tea sounds delicious!

    • Peppermint is one of my favorite flavors, Chris; I’m glad I’ve found a kindred spirit! Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  • So much fun reading your highlights from the year, Tara! It certainly sounds like you’ve had a fun and exciting one! I am all about cute and comfortable work shoes and those wedge booties are it! If I could wear running gear all day I would but although you can look cute in it, its not exactly professional, ha! My highlights this year would be running a sub 2 hour half, my grandma being cancer free, and starting my blog. Its been a really tough year for other reasons but it sure is important to reflect on the positives 🙂

    • I’m with you, Angie; I’d love to get away with wearing my running gear all day (and wouldn’t that be cheaper?), but it’s just not going to happen around here. You’ve had quite a year; I’m so thankful you’ve shared some with me and I’m excited to follow along in your journey through the NEXT year!! Thank you so much!

  • I am obsessed with hot tea so I need to try that one! I’ve been wearing the Asics Nimbus since 2006 and I love them, so I’m always excited when other people fall in love too! I think the best movie I saw this year was Little Boy. I cried thru the entire movie!! I am so, SO excited to see you and C this weekend!! Travel safe!!

    • I don’t know why I didn’t like them before, Sarah; I love them so much now! It’s hard for me to put my Cumulus ones back on now – ha! Hope you are having an uneventful trip; see you tomorrow!!

  • I love every last bit of this, but I’m especially excited about the Asics recommendation! I’m in the market for new running/walking shoes because I NEED TO DO MORE OF THAT. Gonna try them out!

    • Andi, I’ve been wearing ASICS since I was in high school but, please keep in mind, everyone is different. I would highly suggest checking in with a local running shop to make sure you get the right ones for your feet before you buy them; having said that, I do think that ASICS is a great brand. Thanks so much! Hope you’re having a good day!

  • Such a fun post! This year has been a lot of highs and lows for me. Highs have been on the road–I’ve had a fantastic year of running. Maybe that was fueled by my lows and struggles with my son. It’s been an emotional roller coaster, but I’m grateful that I have running to keep me sane.

BTW, I bought those exact Asics for my next pair–they’ll be on my feet in March, just in time for my Florida half. Don’t you think that color is perfect for the tropics?

    • The color IS perfect for a Florida race in March, Wendy; that’s brilliant!! I’m glad that you have running to keep you sane, too; those boys are a challenge, but I know you love them so much. Thanks so much for stopping by; hope you’re getting ready for the weekend!

  • I like the idea of bacon and egg cupcakes, but really I have to say I’d prefer just having bacon with omelettes, because you can make the omelettes as big as you want, which is what we usually do. But we’ll definitely have to check that out as my wife and I are on a mostly sugar-free diet. Thanks for the ideas.

    • Bryan, I completely agree! I stick these in little plastic baggies and take them with me to work; much easier for me to grab and go than an omelette – ha! Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  • Your new home is charming and lovely.

    Great highlights.

    Thanks for sharing.

    My A Month of Faves

  • Some awesome moments! We used to love going to Hot Springs!! Oh, and I am obsessed with peppermint bark, I need to find that tea ASAP!! Yum!

  • I’ve been drinking a lot of tea lately too. I need to get some more – all out – so I’m going to try the Peppermint Bark one you recommended.

    • Tanya, you’ve visited Hot Springs in the past?!! What a small world! It’s a nice little getaway for us – only about an hour away – and cheaper than a “big” trip. Thanks so much!

  • I love it all!! I love food probably too much. Lol. Your house is SO stinking adorable.
My favorite scent in my house is cinnamon. I love it all year round, but it especially reminds me of Christmas time!
    I want those wedge shoes!

    • Brandie, I love cinnamon scents, too; I need to get some more cinnamon something (candles, maybe?) for the house!! The shoes are really comfortable, too, and this is coming from a woman who ONLY wears flat shoes – ha! I couldn’t find them on the Clarks website anymore, but it looks like they are still around on Amazon. Thanks so much!

  • I moved this year, too! It must have been a good year for changes 🙂 I’m also excited to see the Sisters movie!! It is going to be ridiculous, but amazing.

    • Oh, my gosh, Lindsey; I can’t wait to watch it!! Several people that I know have moved this year; it’s a tough transition to make, but it was worth it. Hope you are enjoying your new place and thanks so much!

  • I can’t believe 2015 is almost over!! I love your new home and you’ve had some great moments this year!
I need to check out concussion and Creed – all the movies you suggested sounds great!
So fun that you and Cecilia got to meet in person!
    Have a wonderful weekend!!

  • Oh man, I wish I had known about the peppermint bark tea before I finished my Christmas shopping. I’m going to get my daughter some next year.

    • It’s so good, Akilah; I think I’m going to have to get some more before it goes away, since it’s limited edition. Thanks so much!
